WRAP

Who is WRAP?
WRAP is an independent, objective, non-profit team of global social compliance experts dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane, and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education. Our primary activity is our factory certification program, which is the largest of its kind in the world mainly focused on the apparel, footwear, and sewn products sectors. We also operate a comprehensive social compliance training program.

Is WRAP a government organization?
No. We are not connected to any government in the world nor do we receive funding from any government.

Is WRAP an industry organization?
No. While we do trace our roots back to the apparel and footwear industries, today WRAP is a fully independent, self-governing, and self-financed organization. Click here to read more about our history.

Is WRAP an advocacy group?
No. WRAP is a politically neutral organization and as such, we do not express positions on any political matters nor do we lobby for or against any laws or policies, whether they be domestic or international.

Where is WRAP located?
Our headquarters are located in Arlington, Virginia, USA just outside of Washington, DC. We also have branch offices in Hong Kong S.A.R., China, and Dhaka, Bangladesh, and full-time staff in India and Southeast Asia (Thailand & Vietnam). Click here to see our full staff list.

How is WRAP funded?
To maintain our independence and credibility, we are funded solely by the registration fees paid by factories in our certification program as well as by revenues generated through our training program. We do not accept charitable donations nor do we rely on grants from any government or other body. Furthermore, we do not collect membership dues.

Is WRAP a membership organization?
No. We strongly believe that WRAP must not be influenced by any outside interests, whether they be financial, political, or influence from members, in order to maintain credibility as a trustworthy social compliance certification body.

How can I engage or get involved with WRAP?
There are several ways that you can engage with us and stay up-to-date with what we are doing. The best way to do so is through this website as well as through our social media channels. We also publish a weekly newsletter that covers the latest garment sourcing news from around the world in addition to providing the latest updates about WRAP, including upcoming training dates (click here to subscribe to the newsletter). While we are a non-profit group, we are not a charitable organization and do not accept donations. Furthermore, our work is also not conducive to volunteering, therefore we do not have any volunteer opportunities available. When we have staff openings in our offices around the world, we address those needs directly.

How is WRAP governed?
WRAP is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors, the majority of whom are required by WRAP's Articles of Incorporation to be from outside the apparel and footwear industries. Click here to see the current members of WRAP's board.

How often is the WRAP program updated?
As part of our own internal management systems, we conduct a thorough review of our certification program every two years and make updates as needed to adapt to the ever-changing social compliance landscape. We may conduct more frequent reviews should the need arise.

Certification Program
Who can seek WRAP certification?
WRAP certifications can only be granted to individual production units. Holding companies, brands, and retailers are not eligible to apply. Furthermore, our Certification Program is mainly focused on the sewn products, apparel, and footwear sectors and related industries.

How does a production facility get WRAP certified?
Attaining a WRAP certification involves a 5-step process. It begins with the production facility filing an initial application with WRAP and paying the registration fee. Then the facility will conduct a self-assessment of its compliance with WRAP's 12 Principles, which is followed by an additional audit conducted by one of our accredited monitoring partners. The report from that audit is sent to WRAP, where we then decide whether or not to issue a certification. Click here for more information about our certification process.

How long does it take to get WRAP certified?
It depends on the preparedness of the facility at the time of application. It can take as little as 6 weeks to get certified, but can take anywhere from 2-6 months, or in rare cases even longer, from the time an application is submitted for a certification to be granted. See our certification page for more information.

How much does it cost to get WRAP certified?
WRAP charges a registration fee of US$1195 for new facilities seeking certification as well as for Platinum and Gold-certified facilities seeking renewals (Silver-certified facilities seeking renewal are charged a reduced registration fee of US$895).
